About the Gallery

Off the Wire is a curated gallery for sports photography that stands on its own as contemporary art. Every assignment produces thousands of frames; a handful ever get published, and none are typically reviewed as art. We look at the full archive and select the rare frame that holds on its own — independent of the game, the score, or the athlete in it.

Not organized by athlete, team, league, or event. Curated by feeling and form: solitude, motion, geometry, tension, ritual, stillness. If an image still stops you without knowing the stakes, it belongs in the gallery.

Founding Artist

Ben Solomon is one of the premier, most sought-after sports photographers working in the country today. Based in the New York metro area, he has spent over a decade covering major sport at the highest level, with a client list that includes the New York Times, Nike, ESPN, the New York Red Bulls, the American Athletic Conference, Rutgers Athletics, and the NCAA — along with athletes such as Roger Federer.

He has photographed ten Australian and US Opens, worked multiple Olympic Games, Super Bowls, and Final Fours, and covered three presidential inaugurations. While sport remains his focus, his camera regularly turns toward portrait and corporate work across the country as well.
